Müpa
The Palace of Arts opened in 2005 on the Danube embankment at the Pest bridgehead of Rákóczi Bridge, and has since become one of Budapest’s most important contemporary cultural centers. The building was designed by Gábor Zoboki and his studio, whose restrained stone-clad mass has become a defining element of the riverfront’s new urban axis.
At the heart of the complex is the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, renowned for its outstanding acoustics, while it also houses the Festival Theatre and the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art. Müpa is simultaneously a concert venue, exhibition space, and host of international festivals.
The Danube-facing glass surfaces and generous interior spaces make it one of the outstanding examples of 21st-century contemporary Hungarian architecture.
